Daikin has 193 wall-mounted split systems on the government register, from 2.0 to 10 kW. That is a lot of model codes for what Daikin sells as a handful of ranges, and it is why two quotes for "a Daikin" can be for quite different units.

The tables below list every current Daikin wall split by size, with the star ratings and noise figures from the Energy Rating register. This page explains how to read the codes, where the ratings differ, and what a Daikin usually costs installed. Our Daikin brand review covers the ranges by name and the service network.

Every model on the Energy Rating register marked available in Australia. Stars are the zoned label for the average climate zone (average zone); indoor noise is the registered sound power level, measured the same way for every model. Installed prices are estimated 2026 supply-and-install ranges, not quotes (how we estimate them); your installer confirms the number. Browse and filter everything in the full catalogue.

How to read a Daikin split system model number

The indoor unit code tells you most of what matters. On the register, every Daikin code starting FTX or DTX is reverse cycle and every code starting FTK is cooling only. The two digits after the letters are the size: 25 is 2.5 kW, 71 is 7.1 kW.

From the Energy Rating register, September 2026. Stars fall as size goes up, so the range within each family runs from its biggest unit to its smallest.

Ask the installer to write the series name and the full indoor and outdoor model numbers on the quote. Then you can match it to Daikin's range pages and to this table.

Are Daikin split systems efficient and quiet?

The badge alone doesn't settle it. At 2.5 kW, Daikin's reverse cycle units range from 2.5 to 5.5 cooling stars in the average zone depending on the code. That spread is wider than the gap between most brands. Pick the model; the logo won't do it for you.

On noise, the register's indoor figure is sound power measured the same way for every brand. On that measure, Daikin wall splits sit around the middle of the field at most sizes: 56 to 58 dB(A) at 2.5 kW against a register median of 54.5, and 61 to 68 at 7.1 kW against 63.8. Brochure noise figures are measured differently, usually at the lowest fan speed, which is why they look much lower. Our quietest split systems ranking compares everyone on the register figure.

How much does a Daikin split system cost installed?

A bedroom-size Daikin usually installs in the upper half of the $1,500 to $2,500 band for a 2.5 kW, and like-for-like runs a few hundred dollars over the mid-tier brands. A 7.1 kW living-room unit is typically $2,600 to $3,900 on a standard single-storey install. What you pay for is the dealer network and a five-year warranty, which matter most in the room you'll use for fifteen years.

See the size pages for Daikin 2.5 kW and Daikin 7.1 kW, or the Daikin vs Mitsubishi Electric comparison. Then get up to three local quotes and have each installer name the exact model.

FAQ

Daikin split system: common questions

What does FTX mean on a Daikin air conditioner?

FTX is the start of the indoor unit code for Daikin's reverse cycle wall splits. On the register, every FTX model heats and cools, while FTK models are cooling only. The number after the letters is the capacity, so FTXM25 is a 2.5 kW unit.

Are Daikin split systems worth the extra money?

For a room you'll use daily for years, usually yes, for the service network, parts supply and five-year warranty. On average the star ratings are no better than the cheaper brands', so what the premium buys is support. Size it correctly first; an oversized Daikin is a worse buy than a well-sized anything else. Then get up to three local quotes and see what the premium comes to for your room.

How many Daikin split system models are there?

The register lists 193 current Daikin wall splits: 149 reverse cycle and 44 cooling only. Many are near-identical variants of the same unit, so the real choice is between a handful of ranges at each size.

How much does a Daikin split system cost installed?

Typically $1,400 to $4,800 supplied and installed in 2026, depending on size and the job. 2.0 kW: $1,400 to $2,400; 2.5 kW: $1,500 to $2,500; 3.5 kW: $1,700 to $2,700; 5.0 kW: $2,100 to $3,300. Pipe runs, a new circuit or a second storey add to it. Get up to three local quotes for your actual job.

Which is the quietest Daikin split system?

On the registered indoor sound level, the Daikin FTKM20Q2VMA (2 kW) is the quietest at 54 dB(A). Compare within the same size: bigger units are louder. See the quietest split systems ranking.

Which is the most energy efficient?

For the average climate zone, the Daikin FTXM20AVMA (2.2 kW) has the highest cooling rating here at 5.5 stars. Star ratings on the zoned label run to 10, and a star is worth more in a hot zone than a mild one. For cold-climate heating, the Daikin FTXM20AVMA leads at 3.5 stars.

What size split system do I need?

Roughly 2.5 kW for a bedroom, 3.5 kW for a large bedroom or small living room, and 5 to 7.1 kW for open-plan living. West glass and poor insulation push it up. Use the size calculator for your room.
