QLD
Queensland air conditioning rebate 2026
Short answer
There is no Queensland government rebate on buying or installing a household air conditioner in 2026. The Climate Smart Energy Savers rebate has closed and Energex's PeakSmart program is closed to new participants, so the saving comes from the quote and the running cost.
Prices are estimates, not quotes (how we estimate them). Rebate rules checked September 2026.
Compare 3 quotes for my houseQueensland does not currently run a VEU-style rebate on household reverse cycle. The Climate Smart Energy Savers appliance rebate has closed. If a Facebook ad promises an $8,000 government grant on a single split in Chermside, that is an ad.
You still save. Humidity-capable kit, a tight quote, and a unit that will survive the salt if you are on the coast. That is the Queensland version of a rebate.
We will show a zero in the checker rather than a fantasy number. You can trust a zero.
Is there a Queensland government rebate for air conditioners in 2026?
No. We checked qld.gov.au on 29 September 2026. The Home energy savings page lists solar rebates for landlords, electricity concessions, the Solar Bonus Scheme and hardship help. None of them pays towards a new air conditioner.
| Program | Status | What it does | Helps with the air con itself? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Climate Smart Energy Savers rebate | Closed | Was a rebate on efficient appliances, air conditioners included | No longer |
| Energex PeakSmart | Closed to new participants | Rewarded demand-response-ready air conditioners; existing units stay active | No longer |
| Queensland Electricity Rebate | Open | $399.47 a year off the power bill for eligible card holders | No, running cost only |
| Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme | Open | Help with power costs for people with a chronic condition that needs heating or cooling | No, running cost only |
| Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme | Open | One-off help for households in severe financial hardship | No, bills only |
With no discount to chase, the price you are quoted is the price you pay, so it pays to see itemised ones. Get up to three local quotes and compare them line by line.
What happened to the Climate Smart Energy Savers rebate?
It was a Queensland Government rebate on energy-efficient appliances, and eligible air conditioners were part of it. It has closed to new purchases and installations, and the old qld.gov.au page now points to the general home energy savings page.
Some installers still quote it in their ads. If a quote mentions "the Queensland rebate", ask which program, and ask to see it on a qld.gov.au page. There isn't one for household air con. An itemised local quote is the honest comparison.
Is PeakSmart still available on new air conditioners?
No. Energex says the PeakSmart program is closed to new participants. If you already have a PeakSmart-enabled air conditioner, the receiver stays active and the network can still cap its draw during a few high-demand events a year.
Plenty of units sold in Queensland are still demand-response capable. That is worth having. It no longer comes with cash.
How Queenslanders save on air conditioning without a rebate
In Brisbane or on the Gold Coast you run cooling for months, so the cheapest system is usually the efficient one that is sized right, not the one with the lowest sticker.
- Get two or three itemised quotes. The spread on the same job is often bigger than any rebate in the country.
- Size for the room and the sun. A west-facing Queenslander with a raked ceiling needs more than the floor area suggests. Start with the size calculator.
- Buy on energy rating as well as price. Every star saves you money across a long cooling season. The running cost calculator shows the difference on your tariff.
- On the coast, ask about corrosion protection for the outdoor unit and where it will sit relative to salt spray.
- Use dry mode on sticky days. Humidity is half the discomfort in a Queensland summer.
Local prices are on our Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast pages. When you're ready, get a quote sized for your room.
Energy bill help for Queensland pensioners and concession card holders
The Queensland Electricity Rebate is $399.47 a year, GST inclusive. You must be the account holder, the supply address must be your main home, and you need one of: a Queensland Seniors Card, a Pensioner Concession Card, a Health Care Card (Electricity Rebate only) or a DVA Veteran Gold Card. Asylum seekers can also qualify with ImmiCard details.
If someone in the house has a chronic medical condition that needs heating or cooling, look at the Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme as well.
