Best for

Budget splits and rentals where the installer is an authorised Teco installer, locking in the full seven years.

Plenty of Australians know Teco from portable air conditioners and small appliances. The parent is TECO Electric & Machinery, a Taiwanese industrial group, and the local company, TECO Australia, handles distribution and warranty.

Its reverse cycle range is small and plain. The current wall split is the Platinum 3D series in the common sizes, with multi-head units and a handful of ducted models alongside. You will find Teco at appliance retailers and on electrical wholesalers' shelves.

A bedroom-size Teco split usually installs for about $1,500 to $1,800 in 2026, with 7 kW living-room units around $2,100 to $2,900. That is squarely value-tier money, beside TCL, Midea and Hisense.

The news is the warranty. From 1 July 2025 Teco moved its high-wall, multi-head and ducted systems from five years to seven. The detail that matters: the parts and labour cover applies when the install is done by one of Teco's authorised professionals.

That condition is the whole decision. A Teco fitted by an authorised installer with seven years of cover is honest value for a spare room or a rental. A boxed Teco fitted by whoever was cheapest may leave you arguing about labour in year four. Have the installer supply it: get up to three local quotes.

Is Teco a good air conditioner brand?

Teco is a reasonable budget brand with a real Australian company behind it. The units are basic inverters without the air purification or designer panels of dearer brands. The seven-year warranty introduced in 2025 is the best argument for it.

Put it where budget units make sense: rentals, granny flats, spare rooms and studies. For the main bedroom or the family living area, spend up to a quieter mid-tier unit if the budget stretches.

2.6 kWBedroom or study to about 20 m²$1,500 – $1,800
3.5 kWLarge bedroom or small living, 20–30 m²$1,700 – $2,100

7.0 kWOpen-plan living, 45–65 m²$2,100 – $2,900
Estimates for a standard back-to-back install. A new circuit is usually $300 to $900 more, and a switchboard upgrade $1,000 to $3,500. The installer confirms the number on the quote.

The simplest route is an installer who supplies and fits the unit. Get up to three local quotes that way. If you already have a boxed Teco, check the installer is on Teco's authorised list. The split system cost guide covers what a standard install includes.

Teco warranty: what the seven years actually covers

Teco's domestic warranty gives seven years on high-wall, multi-head and ducted systems bought from 1 July 2025, and five years for earlier purchases. It covers residential use only.

  • Parts and labour for the full term apply when an authorised Teco professional installs the unit. Ask for proof your installer is authorised.
  • Onsite service applies within 30 km of an authorised technician. Beyond that, travel may be on you.
  • Repairs by anyone other than Teco's authorised service people are excluded, as are relocated units, commercial use, caravans and auction purchases.
  • Keep the invoice with the model and serial numbers, and use a licensed installer with an ARCtick licence.

On paper Teco and TCL both reach seven years, but by different routes: Teco through an authorised installer, TCL through registration. Gree's six years is the simplest of the lot, with no strings beyond a licensed install. Get up to three local quotes to see which your installer backs.

Where a Teco fits

  • Rentals, where the long warranty covers most of a landlord's holding period.
  • Granny flats, studios and home offices with modest run hours.
  • Budget multi-head jobs where two bedrooms share one outdoor unit.
  • Not first choice for a light sleeper's bedroom or a salt-exposed coastal wall. Check the size calculator either way, since an undersized budget unit runs flat out and loud.

Where it earns the money

  • Seven-year warranty on high-wall, multi-head and ducted systems bought from 1 July 2025
  • An Australian company, TECO Australia, handles distribution and warranty
  • Sold through both appliance retailers and electrical wholesalers, so it is easy to find
  • Sharp prices on the Platinum 3D wall splits

Watch-outs before you sign

  • Parts and labour cover depends on installation by one of Teco's authorised professionals. Confirm your installer qualifies
  • Onsite warranty service only within 30 km of an authorised technician. Regional buyers may pay travel
  • Warranty only covers repairs by Teco's authorised service people, and excludes relocated units
  • Small range and basic features next to the mid tier

Our verdict

A fair value-tier split with a surprisingly long warranty, as long as the installer is on Teco's authorised list. If they are not, the value case gets much thinner.
