Split system installation cost in 2026

A living room reverse cycle is usually two to five thousand, installed, if nobody is pretending the wall is simple.

A 2.5 kilowatt bedroom unit on a straightforward wall can be $1,800 to $2,800. A 5 to 7 kilowatt living room unit is more often $2,800 to $4,800. That includes the box, the labour, a normal pipe run, and a basic electrical hook-up.

The extras that are not extras: a new circuit, a high wall, double brick, a two storey drop, or an old unit that needs a crane to leave. Any of those can add $350 to $1,200.

Brand matters less than people think, until it breaks. Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu cost a bit more and are easier to get serviced in ten years. The warehouse special is fine if you like living with a dead outdoor unit in year six.

Do not buy cooling-only unless you live in a part of Australia that never gets cold and you are very sure. Reverse cycle is the default for a reason.
